Indian Shooter Grabs Gold in ISSF’s Junior World Cup
Young Indian shooter Subhankar Pramanick clinched the gold medal in 50-metre rifle prone event at the ISSF Junior World Cup for pistol, rifle and shotgun here on Sunday.
The Indian shot 205.5 overall to finish top of the podium. Czech Republic’s Filip Nepejchal (205.2) followed in second position, while Romania’s Dragomir Iordache (185.1) was placed third at the end of the finals.

Govt to expand DBT to 147 schemes by next March
Government is planning to expand Direct Benefit Transfer and double the number to 147 schemes by March next year.
Talking to a news agency, Finance Secretary Ashok Lavasa said government has launched pilots for paying subsidy on food, kerosene and fertiliser directly via bank accounts of beneficiaries.
Benefits and subsidies in 74 schemes of 17 government departments and ministries are paid directly to beneficiaries under DBT as of now.
Mr Lavasa said, the Centre has implemented 30 per cent of the recommendations of the expenditure management commission that was set up to suggest reforms to overhaul the subsidy regime and lower fiscal deficit.
He said government hopes to achieve accurate targeting of beneficiaries, weed out duplication, and curb leakages through DBT.



Guided Missile Destroyer 'Mormugao' Launched

Indian Navy launches missile destroyer 'Mormugao'
The Indian Navy launched country's latest destroyer, the Mormugao, at Mumbai's Mazgaon Docks. The ship will be inducted into the Navy two years later.
MDL (Mazagon Dock Limited) priest Shri Puranik did the mandatory pooja and blessed the ship.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Naval Chief Sunil Lanba said, "The indigenous content of the ship is 68 percent."
The Mormugao is 163.2 metres long and is powered by four Ukranian gas turbine engines to achieve speeds over 56 km per hour.
The Mormugao is the second of a class of Project 15B destroyers -- slated to be the most advanced destroyers built in India. Four are being built at a cost of Rs. 29,700 crore.
P15B-Missile Destroyers are warships with latest weapon package in continuation of the lineage of highly successful Delhi and Kolkata Class ships.
Under this project, MDL will build four Destroyers and deliveries are expected to be from 2020 to 2024. First ship of the class was launched on April 20, 2015. P15B ships will have displacement of 7300 T and maximum speed of 31-32 knots.
The vessel is equipped with Surface to Surface Missiles, Surface to Air Missiles, Anti-Submarine launchers. This vessel is also fitted with Multi mission Radar for surveillance along with medium range Air/surface surveillance radar and other advanced electronic warfare and decoys.

Punjab National Bank roped in Indian test skipper Virat Kohli as brand ambassador for improving its image which has taken a hit due to rising bad loans.
On the occasion Kohli said ‘PNB is Mera Apna Bank’ as he has been an account holder of the bank since the age of 16 years.
Since its inception in 1895, it said, PNB has been people’s bank serving millions of customers throughout India.
Over the years, PNB has grown from strength to strength and has established itself as a major player in Indian banking space, it said, adding, the bank has remained a trusted name in banking, attending to all the segments of the society.
For the first quarter ended June, the bank’s profit declined by a 58 per cent to ₹306 crore on account of mounting bad loans.
During the quarter, provision towards non-performing assets (NPAs) has jumped almost three-fold to Rs 3,620 crore from Rs 1,291 crore in the same period a year ago.
The Gross NPAs rose significantly to 13.75 per at the end of June 2016, from 12.9 per cent in the year-ago period. The net NPAs too rose to 9.16 per cent against 8.61 per cent in June 2015.
In absolute terms, the gross NPAs of the bank more than doubled to Rs 56,654.09 crore from the year-ago levels.

Railways launch 'Cleanliness Week'
Indian Railways marked the 'Swachh Paryavaran Diwas' (Clean Environment Day) by launching the Swachhta Saptah (Cleanliness Week) from Saturday.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, while inaugurating the drive in New Delhi said the objective behind the initiative is to spread wider awareness on sanitation and cleanliness in rail premises and make hygiene a habit amongst the travelling public.
Mr Prabhu on the occasion also spelled out the Railway’s commitment by recounting the initiatives taken under the 'Swachh Rail Swachh Bharat Mission'.
